How to lose weight and keep it off – tips from a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
If I can tell you what I’VE LEARNED as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and doing this for over 8 years, that one thing that helps you to lose weight AND KEEP IT OFF, is this:
- Calorie deficit is king
- Physical activity is important
- The BEST DIET is the one that BEST fits your lifestyle and NEEDS.
- Consistency > Perfection
- Sticking to it
Yes, I know most people know it.
Calorie deficit is at the top because it’s the #1 thing that helps you LOSE weight.
THE PROBLEM is how the f*ck do we do it when we’re:
- Busy
- Working all the time
- Have kids
- Potlucks at work
- Work from home
- Old habits
How do you solve your problem?
The answer is to hold yourself accountable and just work on 1-2 simple things.
Those 1-2 things are the things that are easiest for you – not your friend, not your auntie, not your sister. Easiest for you. Don’t try to go all out – it never works!
STICK TO IT. YES IT WILL SUCK. YES IT WILL NOT BE EASY.
Success happens with small, sustainable changes
Focus on small changes on what’s easiest for you and trust me, over time it will ADD up. Small and sustainable changes ADD up over time.
Small changes like:
- Having a night routine
- Meal prepping 2-3 days ahead
- Not going out to eat often
- Eating more veggies during lunch or dinner (or both!)
- Increasing physical activity in general
- Sleeping one more hour
When you focus on what you can control and take SMALL actions towards it, you will be surprised at how much you can accomplish.
